It's Not (Quite) Spring Yet

Maybe we Midwesterners are naive, maybe we're just optimistic, or maybe we're in a constant state of weather denial. But long about March 1 every year, many of us have this idyllic vision that the weather will suddenly turn springlike and stay that way. Why? Good question.
It's like we're Charlie Brown, our imagination is the football, and Nature is Lucy. And every year, we get suckered into running full steam at that football, and just before we kick it, Lucy (Nature) pulls it away and says, "Yeah, not this time Chuck."
Well, it happened again; like it happens every year. We had a few days of nice weather, which brought out bikes and basketballs in driveways, strollers on the sidewalks and even some premature lawn work. And we loved it. "This is going to be the year!" we said metaphorically, as a group.
But we knew, didn't we? Of course we did. And then, it happened. Like it always does. Like clockwork. Lucy pulled the ball away. So, here I am, already sweating from shoveling multiple inches of heavy, wet snow that fell overnight on top of the cold, freezing rain that pelted us on Sunday.
And it's only 6:10 a.m.
And it's not done. We're scheduled to get two to four more inches today, over the "I-don't-know-how-many-inches" that have been dumped on us so far.
What it tells me is two things: 1) Spring is not here yet. And even though the calendar says it, we don't ever like to believe that, and 2) This apparently isn't going to be "the year."
Anyway, that's all I have for today. In the scheme of things, we'll get through this, the snow will melt quickly, and soon, it will be Spring. I just hope everyone is safe.
